Jannik Sinner was born on August 16, 2001, to Johann and Siglinde Sinner in Innichen, a town located in the lovely region of South Tyrol in northern Italy. He was raised in Sexten, where his parents work as a chef and a waitress at a ski lodge.His brother’s name is Marc. Sinner started skiing and playing tennis when he was just three years old. During his childhood, he achieved remarkable success in skiing, becoming a national champion in giant slalom at the age of eight and receiving a national runner-up title at twelve.
During his skiing training, Sinner temporarily stopped playing tennis for a year when he was just seven years old. However, his father encouraged him to get back into the sport. After he started playing again, he teamed up with Heribert Mayr as his first regular coach. However, tennis was still his third priority, with skiing and football taking priority.
When Sinner was 13 years old, he made the decision to switch from skiing and football to focus on tennis. He enjoyed it more than skiing because he enjoyed the direct competition. In addition, he desired to participate in a solo sport that would grant him full autonomy over decision-making, a chance that would be unavailable in a team sport such as football.
He made the choice to move to Bordighera on the Italian Riviera and train at the Piatti Tennis Centre with the guidance of Riccardo Piatti and Massimo Sartori. His parents were fully supportive of his decision. Sinner resided at the center alongside the family of Luka Cvjetković, one of his coaches. Before Sinner’s full-time tennis training with Piatti, he had only been playing twice a week.
